Cake Decorating - Beginners
This course will introduce participants to the basic skills of cake decorating and sugar art. You will be shown techniques related to tools and equipment, covering a cake using icing, use of modelling paste and basic piping with royal icing. Learn how to make some sugar flowers (including waratah, carnations, frangipanis and filling flowers) and then put the finished product together. Bring requirements listed on Confirmation/website first session. Please note that the cost of materials for this course is payable to the tutor during the course, in addition to the course fee paid to the College. For more details, please refer to the “Materials“ section on the course webpage. No concession.

Agenda
* Outline of course. Tin lining and board covering. Start Waratah
* Make moulding paste. Making quick animals eg teddy bear, elephant
* Frangipane
* Carnations - pulled filling flowers
* Royal icing - piping waratah
* Cake covering
* Colouring flowers and leaves
* Putting all elements together and completing any unfinished work
Note: the outline may change order depending on the participant‘s experience
Materials
Bring pen and paper first session. You will need a tea towel, dish cloth, soap, hand towel, and pastry sheet to work on from Week 2. The tutor will purchase a large bag of icing (cost will be $30 per participant which covers RTR icing to cover your cake as well as moulding paste for flowers and recipes to take home and try yourself). Some ongoing equipment will need to be purchased.
Bring tea towel, dish cloth, hand towel and soap.
Please wear enclosed shoes for this course.
