Dressmaking - Sewing Circle

A course for the beginner or more advanced sewer. Learn to make garments or projects for yourself, family or home using a commercial pattern. Individual guidance given by the tutor will give you a professional look and fit. Bring requirements listed on Confirmation/website first session.

Agenda

Week 1: Introduction to taking measurements, make adjustments to pattern, reading back of pattern envelope, layout pattern onto fabric.
Weeks 2-8: Work through individual garments/projects with individual guidance and fitting.


Materials

Do not purchase equipment until you confirm that the course is running.

Bring sewing machine from second week (College machines are available if need).

For first time sewers: choose a simple pattern such as a plain skirt, dress or top pattern using cotton type fabric or similar. Check fabric suggestions on back of pattern envelope - if a stretch fabric is called for it must be used. Purchase and pre-wash fabric before course. When choosing pattern size it should fit your bust and/or hip measurement.
