For people with good oral communication skills and basic reading and writing skills who want to improve their reading, writing and comprehension skills. You will also cover mathematical concepts to help you with everyday activities such as following directions and calculating costs. You may take one or more terms to achieve a Statement of Attainment. Fee (GST free): Individual permanent residents and Agencies enrolling clients - please contact the College office as you/your client may be eligible for a free NSW Government subsidised place. If not, you will pay $120. Non-permanent residents - $160. No concession.

Agenda

* Orientation. Goals, free writing, comprehension passage etc.
* Comprehension exercises, prepositions
* Weather, world news, apply for a position
* Subject of interest/grammar, pairs of words joined by &, cloze passage, conversation
* Phonics, grammar-choosing correct word in sentences, conversation
* Comprehension. Multiple choice/sequencing/phonics, conversation
* Comprehension. Antonyms. Dictionary work, conversation
* Comprehension. Homophones, conversation
All of the above is incorporated with the CGEA unit being conducted.


Materials

Bring a dictionary, pen and paper every session.

Since 1/1/15 anyone undertaking accredited training must have a USI (Unique Student Identifier). The College will require you to apply for one before it can issue any Qualifications or Statements of Attainment.

Go to www.usi.gov.au and apply for one now. It will only take 5-10 minutes - you just enter your personal details with one form of ID (e.g. Driver‘s licence, Medicare card, passport, etc). Alternatively you can give the College permission to apply for one for you.
