This advanced course explains and puts into practice the full suite of Excel tools to boost your productivity and analytical skills, while learning key theoretical principles to improve reliability and avoid mistakes. Each lesson explores the functions and other powerful features of the Excel application, and then shows how these are reliable solutions for important business tasks, so what has just been learnt can be applied immediately. You‘ll soon be doing things beyond what you ever imagined Excel could do for you, saving hours of time each month.

Let us show you how to take full advantage of Excel, the application you need the most. At the end of this course, you will feel confident to tackle even the most complex business problem, without needing to bring in a professional programmer. The included theory will ensure you‘ll be able to learn even more functions to impress your team and feel assertive in control of your work and business.

Agenda

Week 1: Excel walkabout we take a tour of the advanced features of Excel we will go on to learn about, where to find them, where to get help about them, and how they are used practically in business and education.
Week 2: Functionality of functions learn the functional language in Excel worksheets to manage data processing, data searching, mathematics, statistics, time, text processing and more.
Week 3: Advanced functionality learn the art of nesting functions to solve complex problems, avoid error codes and to improve the robustness and usability of your spreadsheets.
Week 4: The good oil your spreadsheet is only as good as the data it is supplied, so in this session we learn how to import data, manage data entry and clean up errors using formulae, so that your working data is reliable and robust.
Week 5: Summarising your data practice using Excel‘s powerful summarisation and analytical tools, including Pivot Tables, AutoFilter, Analyse Data and associated worksheet functions.
Week 6: Picture this regardless of any amount of hard analysis, a convincing report from Excel requires clarity and good design, so in this session we learn about formatting, cell properties, conditional formatting, graphical objects and designing charts.
Week 7: Your smart project put together everything you know, by completing a sophisticated Excel project within two hours, with help on hand to get you over any hurdles you may encounter.
Week 8: Building in robustness Being open to editing, Excel sheets can be easily broken by users, so let‘s learn how to protect your workbook from unwanted damage and build in robustness. As we demonstrate our first project to your classmates, we will examine the risks and suggest improvements to ensure its success in the workplace.

Bring your laptop with any version of Excel software, except online or web versions.
Bring a pen to write on your freely-provided course notes.
