Come alive as you explore the connection between art and personal well-being in this uplifting eight-week course. Participants will engage with a range of creative processes including drawing and mixed media, with a focus on creativity as a tool for relaxation, mindfulness, and self-expression in a supportive environment. Each session introduces new techniques and themes designed to build confidence and encourage experimentation through creative practice. No prior art experience is necessary. This course is designed for individuals seeking inspiration, self-discovery, and personal enrichment through art. It is not a therapeutic program or a form of clinical treatment. No concession.
Agenda
Week 1: Observational & Personal Mood Drawing
Activity:
1. Relaxing visualization meditation and discussion
2. Participants create drawings based on visualization techniques using pencil, charcoal, markers or pastels to develop self-awareness, mindfulness, and individual creative expression.
Week 2: Observational drawing continued
Activity:
1.Relaxation exercise
2.Use natural objects to create drawings that enhance observation skills, sensory awareness, and connection with the natural environment using your chosen medium.
Week 3: Expressive Gesture Drawing
Activity:
1.Short, spontaneous sketches capturing movement, emotion, or energy using charcoal, pencil, or pastel to build confidence, encourage spontaneity, and foster engagement with participant�s unique creative process.
Week 4: Gratitude Journaling
Activity:
1. Spontaneous writing exercises
2. Create a series of small collages that promote reflection, self-awareness, and personal
Week 5: Blind Contour Drawing
Activity:
1. Relaxation exercise
2. Draw a selected object or still life without looking at your paper using pencil, charcoal, or pastel.
Outcome: Strengthens observation skills, focus, and creative problem-solving.
Week 6: Movement-to-Art Exploration
Activity: 1. “Active listening“ discover new ways to listen to music
2. Make drawing from sound using music as the stimulus with pastels, charcoal, pencil, or collage to enhance body awareness, coordination, and imaginative thinking.
Week 7: Mandala
Activity:
1. Create a personal mandala
2. Create a mandala to explore your personal connection from the inner world to the outer world using pastels, markers, charcoal, or pencils.
Week 8: Material Curiosity Challenge
Activity:
1. Written exercise, discussion and review of each person‘s creative journey in this course
2. Experiment with new or combined materials to explore textures, colors, and mark-making to promote curiosity, creative risk-taking, and personal growth.
