Come along and start investigating your family tree. It will be an exciting journey to validate the legends, myths and stories that live in your family tree. We will investigate various online resources like Ancestry, Family Search, Trove and other exciting sites. I have been researching for over 15 years specialising in UK, Australia, New Zealand, US and the Netherlands. I am excited to give you the tools to be confident in further researching family trees. Bring requirements listed on Confirmation/website.

Agenda

Week1:
Introduction get to know each other, why are we searching our family tree? Intro to various genealogy sites. Exploring the myths, legends and fables in our trees. What is truth or fiction? Start a chart.

Week 2:
Explore different free sites like BDM, Trove, national and State Archives - what can be found and downloaded from these sites?

Week 3:
Explore Family Search - Examining different reasons why people migrated eg war, criminal activity, escaping persecution, exploring new worlds eg first fleet, Mayflower, Aurora, Vikings, etc.

Week 4:
Explore Ancestry Examine variations in entries, errors made by spelling and illiteracy issues. Exploring census records, military records, Sands directory, wills and probate, published stories by extended families.

Week 5:
Explore Convict/Australian Royalty being able to pull out criminal records from Old Baileys, consent to marriage, Parramatta Female Factory, tickets of pardon, shipping records, etc.

Week 6:
Explore Royal/Aristocrat‘s Genealogy Sites Burkes Peerage, royalblood.uk, tribalpages, British Archival sites, BDM, etc.

Week 7:
Exploring Ancestry and DNA

Week 8:
Building and completing a Family Tree.

Materials

Bring your laptop, dongle, writing materials and notebook.

Venue

Campbelltown Performing Arts HS is on Beverley Road, off Chamberlain Street.
Car parks are in the school grounds off Beverley Road.
Co-ordinators (Craig or Gavin) are located in the single level Administration building next to the Hall, from 7pm to 9pm.
Centre is 1.2km from railway station.
